The mountains,
you already dreamed.

Switzerland is the rare place that looks exactly like its postcards — green valleys under snow peaks, mirror lakes, scarlet trains threading impossible passes. It is also one of the easiest countries on earth to travel, which is why it has long been India's favourite Alpine escape.

The Destination

A small country,
an outsized stage.

Switzerland compresses an extraordinary amount into a country you can cross in a few hours by train: the glacier-capped Jungfrau region above Interlaken, the unmistakable pyramid of the Matterhorn above car-free Zermatt, the lake-and-old- town beauty of Lucerne and Lake Geneva, and a rail network so scenic that the journeys — the Glacier Express, the Bernina, the GoldenPass — are destinations in themselves. Clean, safe, punctual, and ravishing, it works for honeymooners, families, and first-time travellers to Europe alike.

Travalive's Swiss programmes are built around that famous rail system and a careful choice of bases, so you wake to the mountains rather than commuting to them. We secure the right Swiss Travel Pass and seat reservations, time the high-mountain excursions for clear weather, and add the experiences that make the difference — a private lake cruise, a cheese-and-chocolate afternoon, a sunrise on a peak before the day-trippers arrive.

Why Switzerland

What you come here for.

01
The Jungfrau Region

Above Interlaken rise the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau, with the storybook villages of Grindelwald, Wengen, Mürren, and Lauterbrunnen beneath them. The cog railway to the Jungfraujoch — the "Top of Europe" at 3,454m — and the Eiger Express gondola open a world of glaciers and ridgelines.

02
Zermatt & the Matterhorn

Car-free Zermatt sits beneath the most famous mountain in the world. The Gornergrat railway and the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise cable car deliver jaw-dropping panoramas, and the village itself — wooden chalets, glacier-fed streams — is pure Alpine romance.

03
Lucerne & Central Switzerland

Lucerne's covered Chapel Bridge, medieval old town, and lake setting make it the perfect first stop. The peaks of Pilatus and Rigi rise straight from the water, reached by cogwheel railway, cable car, and paddle-steamer.

04
Lake Geneva & Montreux

The Riviera of Switzerland — vineyard terraces above a blue lake, the fairy-tale Château de Chillon, and the elegant towns of Montreux, Vevey, and Lausanne, with French-Swiss style and a gentler climate.

05
The Great Scenic Trains

The Glacier Express between Zermatt and St Moritz, the Bernina Express over the Alps to Italy, and the GoldenPass between Lucerne and Montreux turn travel into the main event — panoramic carriages, spiralling viaducts, and a front-row seat to the Alps.

06
Cheese, Chocolate & Watches

The other Switzerland — a cheese dairy in the Emmental, a chocolate atelier, the Lindt Home of Chocolate near Zurich, and the watchmaking heritage of Geneva — small, civilised pleasures between the big mountains.

How We Travel Here

The experiences that define the journey.

High Mountains

Sunrise on a Peak Before the Crowds

The high Alpine excursions are transformed by timing. We get you onto the early trains and gondolas — to the Jungfraujoch, the Gornergrat, or the Schilthorn's revolving Piz Gloria — before the day-trip coaches, so the glacier viewing platforms and ridge-top terraces are quiet and the light is at its best. A coffee at 3,000 metres with the Aletsch glacier or the Matterhorn filling the view, and barely another soul about, is the Switzerland the brochures promise but rarely deliver. We watch the mountain weather and keep a flexible day in hand to chase the clear morning.

The Glacier Express in First Class

Billed as the slowest express in the world, the Glacier Express takes the best part of a day to wander from Zermatt to St Moritz through 91 tunnels and over 291 bridges, climbing the Oberalp Pass between. We book the panoramic first- class carriages with their curved windows and the at-seat fine-dining service, and plan the day so the journey is a relaxed highlight rather than a transfer to be endured. It is the single most enjoyable way to cross the heart of the Alps, and the views simply do not stop.

A Private Evening on the Lake

Switzerland's lakes are at their most magical late in the day. We arrange a private or classic paddle-steamer cruise on Lake Lucerne or Lake Geneva as the light softens on the peaks, perhaps with a stop at the medieval Château de Chillon or a lakeside dinner of perch fillets and local white wine. For honeymooners we build in the small romantic touches — a chalet with a mountain balcony, a sunset cable car, a chocolate tasting for two. The country was made for this, and it shows.
