Temples, volcanoes,,
and dragons.

Indonesia is an archipelago of seventeen thousand islands and a hundred moods — Bali's emerald rice terraces and cliff temples, East Java's smoking craters, the prehistoric dragons of Komodo, and the turquoise calm of Lombok's Gilis. One country, a dozen different journeys.

The Destination

Beyond Bali,
an archipelago of wonders.

Most travellers arrive for Bali — and rightly so, with its temple culture, ridgeline rice terraces, surf and beach clubs, and the artist town of Ubud. But the islands around it are where Indonesia opens up: the volcanic drama of East Java's Mount Bromo and the electric-blue flames of the Ijen crater, the prehistoric Komodo dragons and rose-pink beaches of Komodo National Park, and the unhurried sands and reefs of Lombok and the Gili Islands. Together they make one of Asia's most varied and rewarding journeys.

Travalive's Indonesia itineraries combine Bali's culture and comfort with the adventure of the outer islands, sequenced sensibly so the ferries, flights, and pre-dawn volcano starts all flow. We choose villas and resorts for setting and service, arrange private guides and boats, and build in the experiences that define the trip — a sunrise over Bromo, a dragon trek on Komodo, a private temple blessing in Bali.

Why Indonesia

What you come here for.

01
Ubud & Cultural Bali

Bali's green, spiritual heart — the Tegallalang rice terraces, the water temples and the artist studios, yoga and wellness, the monkey forest, and Mount Batur's sunrise. Ubud is where Bali's Hindu culture is most alive.

02
Bali's Coast & Temples

The clifftop Uluwatu temple and its kecak dance at sunset, sea-girt Tanah Lot, the surf and beach clubs of Seminyak and Canggu, and the dramatic cliffs and beaches of Nusa Penida just offshore.

03
East Java's Volcanoes

A short hop from Bali, East Java holds two of the world's great volcanic spectacles — the lunar caldera and sunrise of Mount Bromo, and the surreal electric-blue flames of the Ijen sulphur crater before dawn.

04
Komodo National Park

Reached from Labuan Bajo on Flores, a world apart — the prehistoric Komodo dragons in the wild, the rippled viewpoint of Padar Island, snorkelling with manta rays, and the famous Pink Beach. A boat-based adventure like no other.

05
Lombok & the Gilis

Bali's quieter neighbour — the white sands and reefs of the car-free Gili Islands, the surf and emptiness of south Lombok, and the great cone of Mount Rinjani for serious trekkers.

06
Sea, Reef & Wellness

Some of Asia's best diving and snorkelling, world-class surf, and a wellness culture — from Ubud's yoga shalas to clifftop spas — that makes Indonesia as restorative as it is adventurous.

How We Travel Here

The experiences that define the journey.

A water-temple purification ritual at Tirta Empul, Bali
Cultural Bali

A Temple Blessing and the Rice-Terrace Dawn

Bali is Hindu in a way that surprises Indian travellers — offerings on every threshold, temples in every village. We arrange a private blessing with a Balinese priest at a holy spring such as Tirta Empul, and a dawn walk through the Tegallalang or Jatiluwih rice terraces before the day-trippers, when the light is low and the only sound is water moving through the paddies. An evening kecak fire dance on the Uluwatu cliffs as the sun drops into the Indian Ocean completes a day that shows Bali's spiritual soul rather than just its beach clubs.

Volcanoes

Sunrise Over Bromo, Blue Fire at Ijen

East Java's volcanoes are worth the early starts. We arrange a pre-dawn jeep to the Bromo viewpoint, where the sun rises over a sea of cloud and a caldera of smoking cones — one of the most surreal landscapes on earth — and a guided night hike into the Ijen crater to witness the electric-blue flames of burning sulphur, found in only a handful of places worldwide, before the sunrise reveals the turquoise crater lake. Demanding, unforgettable, and a complete contrast to Bali's comfort an island away.

The three-bay viewpoint from Padar Island, Komodo National Park
Komodo

Dragons, Manta Rays and Padar Island

Komodo is pure adventure. From Labuan Bajo we arrange a private boat through the national park — a ranger-guided trek to see the Komodo dragons in the wild, a climb to the celebrated three-bay viewpoint on Padar Island for the best vista in Indonesia, snorkelling with manta rays at Manta Point, and time on the rose-tinted sand of Pink Beach. Sailing between the islands, with the dry savanna hills rising from impossibly clear water, is an experience that feels closer to the dawn of time than the present day.
